Bio

Gino Diiorio is a New York City based playwright.  His plays have had productions at theatres all over the US including New Jersey Rep, Shadowland Theatre, Playhouse in the Square, Luna Stage, Arclight Theatre, Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theatre, The Washington Stage Guild, Custom Made Theatre, Urban Stages, Seven Angels, Penguin Rep, The Garter Lane Theatre, and the Virginia Stage Company.  He has also acted in numerous films, soap operas, and television commercials, as well as over 100 plays in NYC and regionally.

His play Scab was produced by Premiere Stages in 2022 and is published by TRW. His plays The Jag, Centennial Casting, Apostasy, and Dead Ringer, are published by Concord Theatricals. 

His play Sam and Dede or My Dinner with Andre the Giant was given an Off-Broadway production at 59 East 59 in March of 2017 and is published by Dramatists Play Service.

He has won a number of awards for his writing including the E. Desmond Lee Playwriting Prize (Reparation), the BBC International Playwriting Prize (Dead Ringer), Playhouse in the Square New Play Competition (Crib),and the Firehouse Theatre’s Great American New Play Award (The Jag). His play Darwin at Down won2nd prize in the Julie Harris Competition.  He is a two-time finalist for the prestigious Laurents Hatcher Award as well as the Yale Drama Series.  Gino was the winner of the 2007 Urban Stages Emerging Playwrights Award. He also has won a Berrilla Kerr Playwriting Award (2003)

Gino’s short play Blue Tent was featured in “Best Ten-Minute Plays of 2017” (Smith and Krauss). Blue Tent was also produced in the Boston Marathon 2016 at the Boston Playwrights Theatre.

His new play James Hemings was featured at the Great Plains Theatre Conference in Omaha, Nebraska in 2018. 

Gino is a Professor of Theatre at Clark University in Worcester, MA. He has won a number of awards for his teaching including a Logan Faculty Fellowship and a Hayden Junior Faculty Fellowship. He has also taught at The New School for Social Research, NYU, Rockland Community College, and Acteen at the Weist Barron School.

Diiorio is a member of the Actors Studio Playwright/Directors Unit.  He is also a proud member of the Dramatists Guild.
